What is 3D Modeling?
3D modeling is using CAD or Design software to create virtual prototypes or presentations of items we want to create in real life. 3D modeling literally grants you the keys to the kingdom. It’s pretty much everywhere – it is used in virtual reality, video games, 3D printing, marketing, medical imaging and manufacturing CAD/CAM. With a 3D model you will be able to 3D print and prototype, CNC, create patent drawings, animations, photo realistic renderings and more. Here at Lime Design we like to focus on parametric Models. This type of modeling is usually specialized for mechanical design and building design. Parametric modeling maintains a consistent relationship between elements as the model is altered. For example, if the pitch of the roof in the design is changed, the walls automatically follow the adjusted roof line.
Why do I need 3D modeling
Like previously mentioned 3D modeling is everywhere and of course that includes the industrial and product design industry. Almost all consumer products are created using 3D Computer Aided Drafting/Design or CAD software. These are mainly used by mechanical, industrial and electrical engineers. CAD files are computer software’s that design a product and documents the design’s process. This documentation process is also referred to as a feature tree. It allows you to see all the steps taken throughout the design process. A CAD file can also facilitate the manufacturing process by transferring detailed diagrams of a product’s materials, tolerances and dimensions. It can be used to produce either two-dimensional or three-dimensional diagrams, which can then be rotated to be viewed from any angle, even from the inside looking out.
